Back2Basics is a program designed to educate elementary age youth on how to develop resilience skills and coping mechanisms that enable them to work through tough situations in a healthy way. This program does not use drug-related language in any capacity and focuses on the skills needed in future situations where substances could be present. Resilience is the ability to adapt to difficult situations and bounce back using the variety of skills and coping mechanisms that are taught to allow youth to make it through tough situations in healthy ways. Resilience helps young people cope with stress, adversity, and emotional challenges and equips youth with tools to bounce back from setbacks, manage negative emotions, and maintain a positive outlook on life, which in turn, contributes to their overall emotional well-being. Each week, the youth will focus on one of the resiliency themes through age-appropriate discussion, activities, and play to foster a meaningful understanding and application of these skills.
